Künstlerische Holzgestaltung Jürgen Bergmann
The playful combination of art, culture and nature.
A little bit of history...
The Künstlerische Holzgestaltung (creative wood-design) company was started in 1989 by three foresters at a former forest farm, on the border of Germany and Poland. At first the wooden products, furniture and playground sculptures were sold at markets and displayed on the farmland by the roadside. As visitors between the two countries began to stop to admire and play on the sculptures, Jürgen Bergmann began to realise his ambition to create an oasis where the art and culture of the different countries could meet. With the unification of Germany the ideas grew rapidly into reality to what is now Kulturinsel Einsiedel, the cultural centre with its gallery, theatre, annual festivals and seasonal cultural calendar. The centre’s own play-park (now 6 acres) is the most prominent feature. Full of examples of the Holzgestaltung´s creations the park is an adventure land encompassing numerous activities and tactile experiences.
The pirate ship is stranded on a pebbled beach near the fountain for water and sand games. Secret tunnels lead to climbing rocks or the enormous ramp-slides. Beyond are the festival stages, used for music and storytelling throughout the summer, the highlight of which is the Folklorum festival of international culture, every first weekend in September. Continuous labyrinths of ever varying forms, lead to hidden pathways both above and underground and even include Einsiedel´s own minatours – the highland bull, mountain goat, and llama.
